Blue Dog Leather is a full service leather shop offering hand-built Western saddles, and creation and repairs of all types of tack and custom leather goods. All work is hand-sewn or machine stitched to ensure the best quality work possible. Attention to detail and customer service are a given. We offer free estimates, friendly service, and fast turnaround. We can ship to anywhere, and we're happy to work with photos, sketches, and ideas if you're not in our neighborhood.
Business is growing, and we're happy to say we've expanded into building Western saddles, made to fit you and your horse. Keith has studied saddlemaking with Jesse Smith, one of America's best saddlemakers, and he has also taken several in-depth workshops with other experts such as Pete Gorrell and Rod Nikkel to perfect his skill at building a saddle that truly fits you and your horse. See photos of this saddle and other works in progress at the "Western Saddles" link. We'd be happy to make one for you, too!
In our shop, we have several different sewing machines and tools for saddlemaking and to enable high-quality finishing and specialty work. Hand sewing is still often needed for details and authenticity, but it's not always practical or economical. Sewing through delicate garment leather or thick multiple layers of harness requires different techniques and material, and we're happy to be able to provide a full range of options. We also have an extensive library of reference materials and a large inventory of high quality leather to ensure that your work is done correctly and well.
Interesting projects come into the shop all the time, and we've added new pictures and descriptions to this web page. In particular, Keith has made or fitted several pieces for Civil War reenactors, and has renovated some fine old saddles that needed new woolskins and lots of repair and TLC. He's also created harmonica cases, tool cases, and holsters for modern and re-enactors weapons ans well as cowboy mounted shooters. Most recently he made a nice "Buddy" seat for a fine old Harley motorcycle, see the photo at left and read more about that on the "Other Cool Stuff" page.
If you're in the neighborhood, stop by the shop to see what we do. We're always happy to chat about leather and swap a story or two.
We look forward to hearing from you!
